As a passionate ice hockey coach, I recently had the opportunity to lead the talented U13 ice hockey team, Patriot from Vinnytsia, Ukraine. The team participated in a series of matches in Poland for the latest tour of the Carpathian Junior Hockey League in the town of Novy Targ. Due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, the team’s coach was unable to travel, and I was more than happy to take on the responsibility and help out where I could.
“This was one of the most outstanding coaching performances I have ever witnessed for a youth team, and it had a profound impact on my son, Yaroslav.” Oleksandr Skydan
The games were highly competitive and thrilling, with the young Patriot team giving their all on the ice. Here are the results from the exhilarating matches:
Patriot vs Nowy Targ: 8-2
Patriot vs Janow: 3-3* (Patriot lost in penalties)
Patriot vs Sanok: 5-0
Patriot vs Kyiv: 6-1
Patriot vs Janow (final): 4-4* (Patriot won in penalties)
In the group stage, all the games were won by Patriot except for the matches against Janow, which were decided by penalties. However, in the finals, the team faced Janow once again and emerged victorious, clinching the title by winning in penalties.
This experience marked my first time coaching the Patriot team, and it was an incredibly fulfilling one. I was able to bring my skills and experience to the players, helping them to improve their technique, enhance their understanding of the game, and boost their confidence on the ice. It was inspiring to see their growth and development throughout the tournament.
Looking ahead, I am eager to continue working with this talented group of young athletes. I hope to coach the Patriot team in future tours of the Carpathian Junior Hockey League and contribute to their journey toward becoming highly skilled and successful ice hockey players.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this exciting journey in the world of ice hockey!
